"Berserker"

Are you familiar with the Berserkers of Old Norse mythology?  They were warriors who wore bearskins and went "berserk" in battle.  They were known to fight in a furious trancelike state.  Here in my painting we see one staring into the fire becoming hypnotized.  Is he about to fight, or has he just return from battle?
