Modeling

As a portraitist, Valerie loves to paint interesting subjects specifically, people!

She appreciates the beauty in the diverse and unique characteristics of a sitter.  If you have been given a card by the artist, it means, she saw something intriguing in you that she feels would make a fantastic painting.  If you are interested in sitting as a model, please read the information below, then click here and write to us with the subject heading, "Modeling".

If you are selected as a model, you will have a phone or in person consult with the artist to discuss days, times and location of the sitting.  The sitting is the act of actually being present in front of the artist while she paints.  Sometimes the location will be in the artists' private studio, a common studio, or even on location if that is required for the final piece of art.  Selection of clothing or costuming, props and background will also be discussed.  Models are generally asked to pose and remain as still as possible for 30 minute increments with breaks in between.  Pay is $20 per hour can require sessions from 3 hours up to 8 hours. These session are broken up to accommodate the comfort of the model.  All models are treated with respect and privacy and photographs are only taken as an added aid to study and work from when the model is not present.

Children may be models with the consent of their legal guardian, but the child's consent is also important.  Nothing is harder to paint, than a child who does not want to be there!  The artist has worked with children and uses toys, iPads, books, as well as taking photographs to work from, to make painting children easier.

For pet models, similar methods are used to keep a pet engaged as long as possible as well as photographs to work from when they cannot stay put any longer.
